In addition to classes, PAE offers support for students who want to study outside of class:

The Learning Lab

The Learning Lab provides supported online learning opportunities for students to study English or prepare for HiSET and ACCUPLACER exams.  Experienced teachers will guide your studies and help you achieve your goals.

One-on-One Tutoring

Trained volunteers are available to work with enrolled students on reading, writing and speaking done in class.  Volunteers can also help students prepare for their citizenship test. Tutors usually meet one hour per week. See your teacher to arrange a tutor.

Volunteer Opportunities for Students

PAE students can volunteer at our school by helping in classrooms or by working as tutors one-on-one with students who are learning English or math.

ESOL students who want to volunteer must be Level 4 or higher. ESOL students can help in ESOL classes lower than Level 4.

Tutoring sessions take place at the Portland Adult Education building on 14 Locust St. and usually occur once a week for an hour.  Classroom volunteering is once a week for 2 hours.
