School Board Seats on Ballot Nov. 7

Three Portland Board of Public Education seats are up for election Nov. 7: an at-large seat and the District 4 and District 5 seats. Only the at-large seat is contested on the ballot.

That seat is currently held by Board member Yusuf Yusuf, who is not seeing re-election. Two candidates are vying for that at-large seat: Usira Ali and Cody Sims.

The District 4 seat is held by Board member Aura Russell-Bedder, who is not seeking re-election. Fatuma Noor is running unopposed for that seat.

The District 5 seat is held by Board member Sarah Brydon, who faces no opponent on the ballot in her bid for another term.

All Board seats are for three-year terms. All Board and City Council races in Portland are decided by ranked choice voting.

Learn more about the candidates in this article in the West End News.

Portland residents can vote absentee or in person. In-person early absentee voting began Oct. 3 and residents can vote in-person absentee at City Hall until Nov. 2. Click HERE for more information about voting in Portland on the City Clerk’s website.
